We say in our group that you are ONE DAY CLOSER to the Job you are looking for. And that is very true.
Did you also know that you are also ONE DAY CLOSER to meeting the LORD?
This reality set in for me recently as a dear friend and client called me to say that he had cancer and it was terminal. No matter what treatment regime that he would take, ultimately he would die from the cancer. It was inoperable and incurable. It was his death sentence. He is living one day closer to meeting the Lord every day.
In reality we all are. We just don’t like to think about it. Life is precious and we hold our relationships with friends and family very dear. Still, ultimately, like my friend, we will pass from this world into the next.
Just like when we were born, we came into being in our mother’s womb. Grew for 9 months in a comfortable warm environment and then one day, pushed out, into the unknown. It was a cold bright room, where we now had to breath air to get oxygen. What a change. I am sure if we could remember, we would never have wanted to leave the warm cozy placed we had spent the past 9 months. We had no idea what lay on the “other side of the womb.” No one could tell us what it would be like. Even if they could, it would have been very hard to understand that we would be somewhere in air to breath and not in a fluid, and temperatures that would fluctuate. Those would have been strange concepts to us in the womb.
Today, we live knowing that one day, one day closer every day, we will pass from this life into eternal life. It will be yet another transition. We have no idea what is on the other side. Well we do know, if you are a believer and have accepted Jesus as your savior. The Bible spells it all out, and yet it does not and cannot tell the whole picture. It cannot relate what heaven will be truly be like.
My friend, knows where he will be going. He said he would warm up a bench for me, as he would be doing for others he knows including many in his family. I know he probably doesn’t want to leave. He optimistically said that at least now he can plan and prepare. He thought that would be better than dropping over suddenly and leaving his wife and family deal with things. I am sure he doesn’t want to leave just now, but it is out of his hands.
In some ways I envy him; the troubles of this life and world will no longer be a concern to him.
Still I press on, as I also say in the meetings:
“If you are upright and vertical, have not assumed room temperature, God has a plan for you and use for you here and now.”
I will leave you with this familiar Scripture verse:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Think on that verse. The gift from God is that you only have to believe in his Son, nothing added to it. That is the only thing you can do to earn eternal life in heaven. Being good doesn’t count. Knowing of God or knowing of Jesus will not do it…even Satan knows of God and Jesus. Giving money to the poor won’t do it either. There is nothing except the one thing.
There is only One Way to Heaven and that is to believe and accept Jesus as your savior.
You are one day closer. What are you going to do today?
