Recently I attended a funeral for my Sister In-Law. She lived with her husband in Green Bay, Wisconsin for many years. We had not seen them in a long time. Life can get busy, and even through we made many trips back to Wisconsin, we were always on the western side of the state and more than 3 hours drive away from Green Bay. We should have taken time to visit, but did not. That is our loss.
My sister in-law was relatively young at 65, but she did suffered from health problems throughout the years. Still her health issues never did stop her. She always was busy making a difference in other people’s lives.
Life In the DASH
Have you even noticed on the tombstone, there is a beginning and ending date or year? What separates those two dates is a DASH. Life is what happens in the DASH. A tombstone never tells the story of a person’s life and what happens in that DASH. In Nancy’s case, she was married to my wife’s brother for 47 years. She had raised two sons, had four grand-kids, was active as a librarian, and also in her church assisting in 146 weddings. There are many other ways she made life better for many people, but the point is, what really makes a difference is how anyone spends their time in the DASH. What impact can anyone make while serving God on this earth? What is the difference you can make on another person while your spiritual being is bottled up in an earthly body?
Finding Your Purpose on Earth
There have been many books written about finding your purpose in life. “A Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren may be a good place for you to start. Really, your sole purpose in life is to do God’s will on earth. Finding out what God may want you to do is the struggle. This book may help. I have also found spending time, daily with God in prayer – just a simple conversation – telling him what you may want revealed to you this day. Also spending time in His word by reading the Bible also helps. I am reading through the Bible again this year. Each time I read a passage, something new is revealed.
Make your Dash Worthwhile
Granted not everyone will be able to make a world changing impact. Still you can make an significant impact in your world by applying the God given talents you have. These talents are unique to you and you alone. Use them with a passion to do God’s will here on earth. Your Purpose will be revealed day-by-day and your DASH will have meaning long after you have left your earthly body.
