There are times when anyone on a job hunt journey wonders why they are on that journey. There is so much rejection that is faced. The ups and downs during a search, are an emotional roller coaster. Then there are times when nothing seems to happen. And I mean nothing; no calls, no response to applications, absolutely nothing.
Looking for a job can be one of the most difficult things anyone can do in life.
Often, getting a job is not something most people do every day. For many members of our Tuesday Night Group, they find themselves looking for work for the first time in 20 or more years. Additionally sometimes there are people that come to our group that have had criminal convictions in their past. You think you have it hard, consider a black mark that has to be stated on any job application. How do you overcome that obstacle?
Recently we had such a person come to our group for help. He attended the meetings, sought out the help the services members have available for FREE; resume review, Linked profile, Portrait, and career counseling.
Staying positive in the face of adversity is key to success on the job hunt journey that can be quite long. He landed a job recently and had this to say.
“I want to thank you guys and the presenters I saw. I know I landed this job with the help of all of you, but especially Larry Humberstone, who took the time to meet with me and another for a couple of hours privately. Thanks a million Larry!!! Some of the questions you told me to ask them helped, especially the questions of “What are some of the key factors to being successful at this job…is there anything else besides what’s in the job description that you are really looking for?” and followed up by “Are you in a position to hire right now? I don’t think you need to waste your time with any other interviews, I’m the guy you’re looking for…can you hire me today?” He replied he had another interview tomorrow morning, but he would talk to the other manager who I would be assisting, and he called me the same night of the interview and offered the job, without interviewing the next person!!!”
God works in His timing for everything. We may never know the reason why we are on the Journey we are on. Maybe it becomes clearer once we look back after a period of time.
